Ivo Brouwer is a (typo)graphic artist, designer and teacher of lettermaking from the Netherlands. From his studio in The Hague, he works on large-scale calligraphic projects, type design, printing, and installations. His work ranges from experimental letterforms to graphic patterns, created using both analogue and digital tools. His visuals often balance on the edge of being aesthetically pleasing or making your eyes itch.
He holds a Master of Arts from the Type and Media program at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague (KABK), as well as a postgraduate certificate in Typeface Design from The Cooper Union in New York.
In addition to his individual practice, he is part of the High on Type collective, researching and expanding the art of writing together. His work has been exhibited in various museums, including Stedelijk Museum Schiedam, Museum Arnhem, the Museum for Democracy in Korea, and West Contemporary Art. His projects have been recognized by Communication Arts Magazine (Best of Discipline) and the Type Directors Club New York (Certificate of Typographic Excellence), among others. He is supported by the Creative Industries Fund NL.
Ivo is an invited speaker at international symposia and taught at art academies in various countries including Armenia, Denmark, France, Hungary, Germany and Spain.
